When you have a wooden framed window replaced in your home, it can be hard to know what to do with the old window. Many people choose to simply take them to the dump to dispose of them, but if you are someone who is environmentally conscious, you may want to consider finding a way to reuse the window in a unique and creative way. A great option is to use it as an announcement board for an upcoming event, such as a wedding or birthday party.

Rough the Frame of the Window

The first thing that you need to do is you need to roughen up the frame of the window so that it can look a bit worn and aged. You can use some light sandpaper to lightly sand the frame of the window to give it the worn look you want to create.

Seal the Frame

You want to use a clear seal on the frame to keep it from deteriorating. You can apply the sealant with a paint brush. Be careful not to get the sealant on the glass on the glass of the window though because it will make it difficult to write on the glass later on down the road.

Create a Template to Follow

Next, you need to go on the computer and type out a template for what you want to write on each pane of glass. You may want to write the bride and groom's name, the name of the bridal party, and even the date. If you are making the display for a birthday party, you may want to put the name of the person, the date they were born, and how old they are turning on the display. Print each template so that you can follow them when creating the display.

Add Wording to the Display

Cut out each template that you printed and tape them to the back side of the window so that you can see them through the glass. Use chalk markers to trace over the templates to create the design that you want to create. This ensures that the letters are uniform and that the display looks professionally made when you are done.

Allow the chalk markers to dry overnight and then remove the templates from the back of the glass. At this point, you can add hooks to the top of the window to string rope or twine through to use to hang the display during the party.
